Solo, The Indonesia Post – The number of positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Solo City has increased in line with the increase in community activities in recent times.
“Ready or not, we have to anticipate for Omicron and the next waves,” said Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Solo, Central Java, Monday.
However, he asked the public not to worry too much about the new variant as long as the health protocols were implemented. “Take it easy,” he said.
He said that so far the regional government has taken anticipatory steps, including by accelerating vaccinations and ensuring the readiness of equipment for treating COVID-19 patients.
“We already have an oxygen concentrator, a generator, an isotank and it’s ready, don’t worry,” he said.
Asked about the implementation of working from home to minimize the high spike in cases, he said, so far this has not been included in the regional government’s plan.
“There is no plan to go there, our case is very low,” he said.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Surakarta City Health Service (DKK) Siti Wahyuningsih said the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases was not necessarily due to the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“Everything is possible, but the patient has no history of travel. This addition is one because of screening, one because of suspicion,” he said.
Meanwhile, based on data from the Surakarta City COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of Sunday (16/1) the number of COVID-19 patients recorded was five people.
This figure has increased from the previous week which only as many as three patients.
From these data, five patients were confirmed to have COVID-19, two of whom were in self-isolation and three were hospitalized.
With these additions, as of Sunday (16/1) the cumulative number of positive COVID-19 cases in the city of Solo was 26,096 cases. (ojn/bbs)
