Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo appointed Rohidin Mersyah and Rosjhonsyah as governor and deputy governor of Bengkulu for the period 2021-2024.
The two leaders wore white governor’s official clothes, masks and face shields when taking the oath of office guided by Jokowi.
“By Allah I swear that I will fulfill my obligations as governor, as deputy governor in the best possible way and fairly as well as possible, uphold the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and carry out all laws and regulations in the strictest way and to serve the people, the country, and the nation, ”said Mersyah and Rosjhonsyah during their oath of office at the State Palace in Jakarta, Thursday.
Before taking the oath of office, the two of them first received Presidential Decree Number 40 P / 2021 dated February 24, 2021 concerning Ratification of the Appointment of the Governor and Deputy Governor of West Sumatra, Riau Islands and Bengkulu for the term of 2021-2024 at the Merdeka Palace.
The inauguration was attended by limited invitations including the Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung, and other relevant officials.
From the Merdeka Palace, Jokowi, Ma’ruf, Karnavian, the governors and deputy governors of West Sumatra, Riau Islands, and Bengkulu conducted a simple parade to the State Palace together with the Paspampres while keeping their distance from each other.
After making their promises of office, the governor and deputy governor pairs took a group photo and received congratulations from Jokowi and Ma’ruf by keeping their distance and wearing masks.
The Bengkulu Province KPUD named the pair Mersyah and Rosjhonsyah as the winner of the 2020 simultaneous regional elections after the Constitutional Court decided to reject the dispute over the election dispute for candidate pair number 3, Agusrim and Imron Rosyadi.
Mersyah and Rosjhonsyah (candidate number 2) obtained 418,080 votes or 41.20 percent, ahead of the other two pairs, namely Helmi Hasan-Muslihan and Agusrin M Najamudin and Imron Rosyadi.
Meanwhile, candidate pairs Helmi Hasan-Muslihan DS received support from voters as much as 328,364 votes or 32.36 percent, and Agusrin Maryono Najamudin-Imron Rosyadi received 268,316 or 26.44 percent support. The total number of valid votes in Bengkulu reached 1.1 million voters. (icn/bbs)
