HD Pushes for the Karang Asam Festival to Become an Annual Event to Support the Creative Economy

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru called the 2025 Karang Asam Festival in Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim Regency, a driving force for the regional economy and a platform for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

According to Herman Deru, this festival demonstrates that culture-based activities can have a direct impact on community welfare. “Hundreds of MSME booths selling culinary delights, crafts, and local products are a draw for visitors,” he said in Muara Enim on Saturday (September 6).

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among all parties to promote the Karang Asam Festival’s inclusion in the national Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) calendar. Herman Deru stated that the seven-day festival provides a broad promotional platform for MSMEs to showcase superior regional products, from traditional culinary delights to creative crafts.

“This festival must continue to grow. Through collaboration, we can make it a driving force for the regional economy. The South Sumatra Provincial Government will continue to support this festival to become a consistent annual event,” he emphasized.

Muara Enim Regent Edison added that the Karang Asam Festival has revitalized the community’s economy post-pandemic. The diverse arts and cultural performances also further enhance its appeal to tourists.

“The high visitor enthusiasm creates significant opportunities for local vendors to increase their income. This festival is expected to be a catalyst for economic revival in the community,” he said. (rys/ril)
