Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin asked the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) to carry out reforms in the field of legislation and regulation as an effort to accelerate the national economic recovery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I expect the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to be more proactive in carrying out reforms in the field of legislation and regulations needed to accelerate the national economic recovery,” said the Vice President in a key speech at the national seminar with the theme “The Role of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Accelerating a Healthy Indonesia and National Economic Recovery”, as part of a series of events. By reforming these laws and regulations, the Vice President continued, the national economic conditions affected by the pandemic could grow and develop in the midst of increasingly fierce global competition.

“One of our priorities in this regard is to encourage business actors, especially MSMEs to continue to grow and develop in the era of disruption and increasingly fierce competition, now and in the future,” he explained.

The development of MSMEs is one of the government’s priorities in national economic recovery because this sector is the backbone of the national economy and can provide significant employment opportunities.

The regulatory reform must be carried out on the basis of aspirational, accommodative, selective and non-discriminatory principles so that the balance in the economic and health sectors can be maintained, said the Vice President.

“In the Indonesian constitutional legal system, every decision and action is required to be based on general principles of good governance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly said that studies and collaboration were needed to determine regulations related to handling the pandemic and recovering the national economy.

“It is hoped that the strategic role of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in restructuring and reforming law and human rights can respond to the situation and challenges that arise due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Yasonna. (ojn/bbs)
