Governor of West Java hopes that Indonesian parks in Ukraine will not be destroyed

Bandung, The Indonesia Post – West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil hopes that the existence of Indonesian parks in Ukraine will not be destroyed due to the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“In 2017 I went to Kiev, Ukraine, where there was an Indonesian garden. The results of the lobbying of the West Java people as ambassadors. There is a garden, hopefully it won’t be destroyed,” said Ridwan Kamil after inaugurating the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Flyover in Bandung City, Tuesday.

Ridwan Kamil said the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine must be stopped immediately because he fears that there will be more civilian casualties.

“Now that Russia and Ukraine are fighting, we pray for a speedy resolution of whatever the problem is. We feel sorry for the civilian victims,” he said.

When asked if there are West Java residents currently in Ukraine, Ridwan Kamil said that until now his party is still waiting for data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

He said in an international crisis, local governments should not take initiatives without coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, if the ministry submits data later, the West Java Provincial Government will certainly pay extra attention.

“If in an international crisis like this the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was at the forefront, regions were prohibited from taking initiatives without consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are waiting, if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has data, we will definitely pay extra attention,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
