Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Government Spokesperson for Handling COVID-19 Reisa Broto Asmoro said the treatment for patients affected by the Deltacron variant was the same as for patients with other COVID-19 variants.
“The method is the same, the treatment is still the same,” said Reisa in the Healthy Broadcast of the Deceleration Phase in Indonesia which was followed online in Jakarta, Monday.
Responding to Deltacron, Reisa said Deltacron is still the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. Variants that will cause the same symptoms when attacking the human body. Such as cough, runny nose, fever or sore throat.
The emergence of the same symptoms causes the treatment that will be given later to remain the same as in the previous COVID-19 variants. Because, these variants are two variants that infect a person at the same time.
That is, it is something that can happen and does not change the COVID-19 virus. Because Deltacron is a combination of two variants, namely Delta and Omicron, a person affected by the combination of these variants will experience problems in the lower respiratory tract and upper respiratory tract.
“Delta usually attacks the lower respiratory tract, while Omicron attacks the upper respiratory tract. So be careful if you are infected,” she said.
According to Reisa, although cases of Deltacron have been found in several countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) is still monitoring further whether the variant really causes aggravation of the disease or symptoms in infected people.
Therefore, she asked all parties to wait for the results calmly while strengthening health protocols in every activity and immediately vaccinating against COVID-19 so that they remain protected from all forms of transmission circulating in the community.
“Although in some countries this kind of incident has been found, it turns out to be the same and the treatment given is also the same as other variants. So there’s no need to worry, keep yourself safe, and reduce the chance that we can be infected with any variants,” said Reisa.
Previously, the Government Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the government was still monitoring the development of the Deltacron variant which has been detected in several countries in Europe and is a combination of Delta and Omicron mutations.
“This development is still being monitored. Because there is no evidence related to an increase in transmission, severity and others,” said Nadia.
Scientists have also confirmed the existence of a new COVID-19 variant that combines mutations from the Omicron and Delta variants with cases reported in several European countries.
The variant, dubbed “Deltacron,” was confirmed by genome sequencing performed by scientists at IHU Mediterranee Infection in Maseille, France.
The variant has been detected in several areas of France. Cases of the Deltacron variant were also found in Denmark and the Netherlands, according to the international database Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID).
Separately two cases were identified in the United States and a reported 30 cases were identified in the UK.
These variants are hybrids that arise through a process called recombination, in which two viral variants infect individuals simultaneously resulting in exchanging genetic material and creating new variants. (mhn/bbs)
