Palembang, The Indonesia Post – As a token of appreciation and commitment to cultural preservation, the Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, attended the lively South Sumatra Textile Fashion Show, organized by the South Sumatra Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda). The event, which showcased the brilliance of the region’s distinctive fabrics, took place magnificently at the Ballroom of the Aryaduta Hotel in Palembang on Thursday (April 2, 2026).
In her report, the Chairperson of the South Sumatra Regional Handicraft Council (Dekranasda), Hj. Febrita Lustia Herman Deru, stated that this series of events culminated in a spirit of collaboration. Previously, a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) and active discussions involving all PKK activists from regencies/cities across South Sumatra had been held.
“Dekranasda’s unwavering enthusiasm for advancing South Sumatra’s MSMEs through empowerment has never waned. We thank all those who have supported this activity as a collective effort to preserve our textiles,” said Hj. Feby Deru optimistically.
On this occasion, the South Sumatra Provincial Dekranasda also gave special awards to craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to preserving the cultural breath of South Sumatra. Among them are Nurkasih (KATON Art Gallery), Roudho: Ethnic jewelry craftsman, Ujang Ismail: The figure behind the beauty of quality songket yarn, Kemas Muhammad Ali: Maestro of Songket craftsmen and Udin Abdullah: Preservator of Tanjung cloth.
Governor Herman Deru’s presence at the event affirmed the provincial government’s continued support for local product innovation. This fashion show was more than just a fashion exhibition, but a statement that South Sumatra’s traditional textiles are a class of their own, capable of competing nationally and internationally, with modern yet ethnic designs.
The event closed with a fashion show performance by the Chairperson of the Dekranasda Regency/City throughout South Sumatra and the Heads of OPDs within the South Sumatra Provincial Government using various South Sumatran textiles.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, H. Cik Ujang, and the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) of South Sumatra Province. (mhn/ril)
