Putin, Jokowi discuss the upcoming G20 Summit

Moscow, The Indonesia Post – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Joko Widodo discussed the upcoming G20 summit by telephone on Wednesday.

The statement released by the Russian government did not say whether Putin planned to attend the summit scheduled to take place in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

Putin previously said he had not yet decided whether to attend the G20 summit.

If he does not attend the summit, Putin said he would send a top Russian official to replace him.

Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the confirmation of the presence of the leaders of the G20 countries was very high for this year’s summit under the Indonesian presidency.

However, he was reluctant to mention the specific number of G20 leaders who confirmed attendance at the summit.

He said several countries had not yet confirmed due to special situations, such as Brazil which is still busy with the activities of the second phase of the presidential election.

Meanwhile, the new leaders of the G20 countries such as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have confirmed their attendance.

Most of the leaders of the G20 countries, said Retno, will arrive in Bali on November 14, 2022 and will return on November 16, 2022.

United States President Joe Biden has confirmed his planned visit to Indonesia from November 13-16, 2022 to attend the G20 summit in Bali, according to a statement released by the White House on October 28, 2022.

In Bali, Biden will work with a number of partners to tackle key challenges, such as climate change and the global impact of the war on Ukraine—including security and energy and food purchasing power, the White House said.

Biden on that occasion will also discuss a series of other priority issues related to efforts to recover the global economy.

Previously, Downing Street also announced plans to meet the new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak with the US President on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali in November. (mhn/bbs)
