President Jokowi receives peace award from ADFP

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the Al Hasan bin Ali Award for Peace from the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace (ADFP) because he was considered a role model in strengthening world peace.

Receiving the award was represented by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin in his meeting with ADFP President Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyan in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Wednesday.

“The election of President Joko Widodo as the recipient of the peace award from the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace is an honor for Indonesia and its people as a whole,” said Ma’ruf Amin in his statement as monitored virtually in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, on behalf of President Jokowi and the Indonesian people, sincerely thanked ADFP for the award.

“The President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian people are generally considered to have become role models in strengthening peace and spreading the values ​​of tolerance in the world,” he explained.

Ma’ruf Amin hopes that the award can strengthen Indonesia’s commitment in carrying out the constitutional mandate to carry out world order based on eternal peace and social justice.

“Once again, thank you. Hopefully ADFP can continue to grow and become a forum for all world Muslim intellectual leaders and thinkers in creating a culture of peace,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abdullah conveyed the reasons for ADFP choosing President Jokowi to receive the award. According to him, so far Jokowi is considered capable of maintaining peace and maintaining harmony in Indonesia.

“We also previously gave this award to a number of global figures who deserved to receive it. The Al Hasan bin Ali Award for Peace is a symbol and even the only award given in this model,” Abdullah said.

He explained that the choice of the name Hasan bin Ali could not be separated from the history of the heroism of Hasan bin Ali who had reconciled the major conflicts of two camps in the Arab Land, namely Muawiyah and Ali bin Abi Talib.

“When we founded ADFP, we also made this award as a form of taking our example from Hasan bin Ali, who is the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad,” said Sheikh Abdullah. (mhn/bbs)
