Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – SOE Minister Erick Thohir said the United States (US) supports Indonesia to become the center of world economic growth ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali.
“US President Joe Biden is committed to supporting the improvement and development of the Indonesian economy as the center of world economic growth,” Erick said in a statement in Jakarta, Monday.
Erick said the seriousness of the Indonesian government in accelerating the energy transition has become a worldwide concern, including the US. Biden himself fully supports Indonesia’s steps in making the transition to renewable energy.
SOE Minister Erick Thohir accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who held a bilateral meeting with United States (US) President Joe Biden in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, Monday (14/11). Erick said that this meeting took place ahead of the G20 Summit which will start on Tuesday (15/11).
“Thank God, Mr. President Jokowi has met with US President Joe Biden. The President really appreciated Biden’s presence to attend the G20 Summit in Bali,” said Erick.
Biden, said Erick, also greatly appreciated Indonesia’s leadership in the G20. According to Biden, Indonesia has great potential to be more advanced because it has abundant natural resources and quality human resources.
“Earlier, Biden hoped for a role in Indonesia as the leader of Southeast Asia and hoped that Indonesia could strengthen relations between Southeast Asian countries and the United States,” said Erick.
President Joko Widodo and United States President Joe Biden held a bilateral meeting ahead of the G20 Indonesia Summit.
This bilateral meeting is Jokowi’s first in a series of events at the 2022 G20 Summit in Indonesia.
Jokowi expressed hope that the G20 Summit could produce concrete cooperation that could help the world in global economic recovery. (mhn/bbs)
