The Minister of Agriculture invites Indonesian Merchants to support the acceleration of agricultural production

Makassar, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo invited Indonesian traders who are members of the Indonesian Muslim Merchants Association (ISMI) to support the acceleration and increase of Indonesian agricultural production.

“The role of traders or wholesalers is very important in absorbing farmers’ production, especially during the El Nino extreme weather which will take place next August,” Syahrul said while attending the Makassar International Halal Trade and Business (Mihrab) Summit and Expo, and Business Gathering. International (Syllabic) in Makassar, Wednesday.

On that occasion, the former governor of South Sulawesi said that it was a stern warning to all, namely food should not be underestimated but had to be hastened, especially for business people or big traders like ISMI.

“Agriculture is interesting and promising because in my knowledge, during any crisis the only business that can run is agriculture,” he said.

Currently, the government has prepared various strategic steps in dealing with national and global crises. Among them is mapping agricultural land in the red, green and yellow categories as a measure of adaptation and anticipation of the El Nino dry season.

Mapping is done by going directly to the field or monitoring via satellite imagery to anticipate food damage and is an effort to maintain Indonesian food.

“Because of that, collaboration with all parties is needed, including Indonesian merchants,” added SYL, Syahrul Yasin Limpo’s nickname.

The day before at the opening of Mihrab Expo 2023, a number of Indonesian businessmen to businessmen from Egypt also signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) or cooperation agreement at the Makassar International Halal Trade and Business (Mihrab) Summit & Expo Indonesian Muslim Merchant Association (ISMI) in Makassar .

The entrepreneur from Indonesia is a member of ISMI, including cooperation between educational institutions in Indonesia that are also part of ISMI and educational institutions abroad.

Committee Chairman Muhammad Yasin Azis stated that the activity which was held from July 4-6 was also part of preparations for facing the threat of a recession which was informed that it would occur in late 2023 to early 2024.

Even though a number of participants were present, said Yasin, mainly from outside Indonesia such as Thailand, Malaysia and Egypt, they admitted that they did not need to think too much about it.

“The point is we manage the business proportionally, professionally with good cooperation coupled with reinforcement,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
