// North Korea’s leader suggests he has no intention of surrendering nuclear weapons despite a deadlock in talks with the United States.
Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called his country’s nuclear weapons a strong guarantee of security and a “reliable, effective” deterrent that could prevent a second war on the Korean Peninsula.
Kim made a statement Monday as he celebrated the 67th anniversary of the end of the 1950-1953 Korean War at reception for war veterans in Pyongyang, according to a report by the official Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday.
The speech signaled once again that the North Korean leader had no intention of surrendering his nuclear weapons even though the United States was trying to make it do it.
Kim said North Korea had developed nuclear weapons to win “absolute power” to prevent more war.
“Now we are able to defend ourselves in the face of all forms of high-intensity pressure and military threats from imperialist and enemy forces,” he said.
“Thanks to our reliable and effective nuclear defense antidote, there will be no more war in this country, and the security and future of our country will be guaranteed forever.” he said. (rma / bbs)
