Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia discussed the prospects and challenges of investment in Indonesia, especially in the Indonesian National Capital (IKN) with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
In a discussion held on the sidelines of the 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Wednesday (18/1) local time, Bahlil said that foreign investment for the development of IKNs had shown positive signals from various countries, but considering the area of IKNs that were large enough, continuous cooperation is needed.
“Investment in IKN is not as good as in the manufacturing sector because the IRR (Internal Rate of Return) is definitely better manufacturing. Therefore, I need to collaborate with other parties like Pak Tony who has experience,” he said in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.
Bahlil revealed that Tony Blair’s extensive network of world investors would be very useful in attracting foreign investment interest in Indonesia.
Tony Blair’s network is also said to be able to bring together domestic investors with foreign partners.
Bahlil emphasized that the Ministry of Investment/BKPM will provide support in the form of facilitating investors and selecting the right local partners.
Responding to this, Tony Blair stated his commitment to support the establishment of IKN. Investor interest in IKN is also expected to continue and Tony is ready to provide his support until it is realized. In fact, collaborative support can also be provided through investments outside the IKN.
“So indeed the interest of investors to enter Indonesia is very large sir. This is inseparable from the big role of the Minister in bringing investors to Indonesia with a positive signal,” said Tony.
Tony also believes that the Minister of Investment has a force of nature in bringing in well-known big investors and is also able to bring together foreign investors with appropriate local partners. (mhn/bbs)
