Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The coach of the Indonesian U-24 national team, Indra Sjafri, revealed that he was setting targets in stages for the 2022 Asian Games for the Garuda team with the initial target of qualifying for the group stage.
“Our target is gradual, (currently) we are concentrating on qualifying in the group. After that we will see the results and then we will make a new target,” said Indra after leading the Indonesian U-24 national team training at Field A of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium complex, Jakarta, Friday. .
At the 2022 Asian Games, Indonesia is in Group F with North Korea, Kyrgyzstan and Taiwan. The Garuda team will start the match by hosting Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday (19/9), then Taiwan on Thursday (21/9), and finally North Korea on Sunday (24/9). The Garuda squad will leave for China on Friday (15/9) evening.
The soccer sport at the 2022 Asian Games will be competed from 19 September to 8 October.
However, Indra was still reluctant to reveal his strategy and preparations when asked about his analysis of the opening match against Kyrgyzstan.
“For the match against Kyrgyzstan, after or on September 18, give me a call, only then can we determine the strategy to face Kyrgyzstan,” he said.
Apart from that, Indra said that the 2022 Asian Games was a championship used to increase the depth of the Indonesian national team squad and provide playing time to a number of players who had not received enough playing minutes previously.
“We want the players in the national team to really have depth. Therefore, there are also new faces that we are calling, there are players that we have previously called but their names have disappeared again, so now we give them the opportunity and take responsibility to be a player in the Asian Games squad,” said Indra.
