Recipients of booster doses reach 57.44 million Indonesians

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The COVID-19 Task Force reported that the number of Indonesians who had received the third or booster dose reached 57.44 million as of Sunday, 12.00 WIB.

Data from the COVID-19 Task Force received in Jakarta recorded that the number of people who had received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine increased by 323,760, bringing the total to 57,446,921 people.

Thus, it is recorded that injections of booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to 27.58 percent of the total citizens who were targeted for COVID-19 vaccination, as many as 208,265,720 million people.

Meanwhile, the population who received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine increased by 48,126 people to 170,298,804 people, which covered 81.77 percent of the total target.

While the recipients of the first dose increased by 47,630 people, bringing the total number to 202,735,128 people or had been given to 97.34 percent of the total target.

Epidemiologist from Australia’s Griffith University Dicky Budiman said vulnerable youth should be a priority to get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“If the dose is limited, prioritize vulnerable groups who have comorbidities or other body conditions. Maybe people with disabilities, autism, including obese children,” said Dicky Budiman.

The Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has allowed booster vaccinations for children aged 16-18 years. According to him, teenagers, especially those who are vulnerable, need to get a booster to increase protection from COVID-19.

“This is a very right decision and the results obtained by BPOM in testing it (vaccine dose) are more clinical. Indeed, it is not much different from other countries which have already given booster vaccines,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
