Hasto Kristiyanto encourages public to imagine

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Doctor of Defense Hasto Kristiyanto hopes that the book entitled Suara Kebangsaan can spur the Indonesian people to dare to imagine like the founding fathers of the nation, one of them Bung Karno.

Hasto said this during the launch and review of the Suara Kebangsaan book at Bentara Budaya, Jakarta, Sunday.

In general, Hasto said that the book has a very simple essence. There are at least five points that are reflected in his mind in writing this book to the people of Indonesia.

“First, we dare to imagine that the Indonesian nation was born as a leading nation in the world,” said Hasto while giving testimony.

Second, the Secretary General of The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P DPP) continued, teaching how important spirit is to be able to overcome various obstacles.

According to him, the founders of the nation did not have material and only had ideas.

However, this was precisely what made Indonesia independent and had the power to put Indonesia on a par with the established countries at that time.

“The third is the essence of strategic leadership, including the importance of intellectual leadership, including discipline,” he explained

Fourth, he continued, the Indonesian people must preserve and be proud of their own archipelago culture.

“We must stand firmly on the foundation of our culture, not Western culture, not Middle Eastern culture, not Chinese culture, but culture that is our national identity,” he said.

Fifth, the Suara Kebangsaan book informs readers about the importance of understanding the geography and people of Indonesia.

Hasto assesses that many Indonesian intellectuals are exposed to Western upbringing so that they forget the concept of a state.

Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Chairperson of the PDI-P, has often reminded this.

Hasto and the PDI-P General Chair Megawati reminded the intellectuals that Indonesia is not a continental country.

“That we are an archipelagic country whose transportation system, logistics system, education system is different. It is different from continental countries,” said Hasto.

He continued, “Well, I hope that reading the Suara Kebangsaan book can build imagination about the future and of course I thank you because I wrote this book right when I was a student at the Defense University because the knowledge was very inspiring.”

On that occasion, Hasto said that the Suara Kebangsaan book that he compiled was an inspiration in seeing the current geopolitical condition of the nation.

This book is useful in providing a perspective on national defense, which is the responsibility of all children of the nation.

“Voice of Nationality teaches us about inspiration and teaches us the importance of defense as the responsibility of all Indonesian citizens, without exception,” said Hasto.

Hasto also said that the book, which was compiled in 42 articles, was the fruit of his thoughts in viewing national events that occurred in the country.

“Including the writings of Literary Jendra, there was an attempt to build an opinion so that the elections were postponed, then the extension of the presidential term of office three times. This writing is actually also a trinket to the dynamics of people’s lives that are happening,” said Hasto.

In the launch and review of this book, present the former Minister of Defense Prof. Ir. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Chancellor of the Indonesian Defense University Vice Admiral (TNI) Prof. Dr. Amarulla Octavian, Pos Kota journalist Azisoko Harmoko, and moderator Gloria Oyong. (mhn/bbs)
