Malang, The Indonesia Post – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that the number of victims from the Kanjuruhan tragedy, Malang Regency, increased by six people, bringing the total to 131 people.
“Today there are an additional six deaths, from 125 people to 131 people,” she said in Malang Regency, East Java, Tuesday.
On that occasion, the number one person in the East Java Provincial Government performed takziyah as well as made a pilgrimage to the grave of the late Syahrullah who was one of the victims who died in the Kanjuruhan tragedy.
“The deceased are among those who have not been recorded at the crisis center,” said the first female governor in East Java.
Governor Khofifah again invited the entire community to pray for the victims who died to be accepted by Allah SWT, and the families left behind were given fortitude and sincerity.
“To all the victims who are being treated at the hospital or are being treated as outpatients, I hope they will be healed soon and return to their activities,” she said.
Head of the Malang District Health Office, Wijanto Wijoyo, when confirmed by ANTARA confirmed that there were six more people who died.
However, he continued, the victim who died was not a patient undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“It is true, there is an increase. But this is not an increase in the number of victims who died after being treated at the hospital,” he said.
He added that the data for the six people who died had just been added because when the tragedy occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, the victims were immediately taken home before data collection was carried out.
“The victim was immediately brought home at that time. The addition of this data was carried out by hard work and field checks, and it is true that there were an additional six people. But, again, these are not the ones who died after undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he said.
Chaos ensued after the match on Saturday (1/10) night, the final result was 2-3 for the visitors. The defeat of Arema FC caused a number of home fans to step down and enter the field area.
The riots grew bigger and a number of flares were thrown including other objects. Joint security officers from the police and TNI tried to dispel the supporters.
The officers then took preventive measures by making diversions so that the fans did not enter the field and chase players. In the process, officers finally fired tear gas. (mhn/bbs)
