Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said that the role of the halal inspection agency (LPH) determines the success of implementing the halal product guarantee system in the country.
“The success of the halal product assurance system is largely determined by optimizing the role of quality halal inspection agencies, starting at the regional, national and international levels,” he said while delivering his remarks via online at the Institute for the Assessment of Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Indonesian Ulema Council Halal Award 2023 in Jakarta, Monday.
The Vice President said that until now the Research Institute for Food, Drugs and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulema Council or LPPOM MUI has shown high performance in completing halal certification. About 75 percent of Indonesia’s certified halal products are the result of an audit from LPPOM MUI.
LPPOM MUI’s seriousness and dedication since 1989, according to him, has made LPPOM MUI a trusted international scale auditing institution for halal products with dozens of partners spread across various countries.
He also stated that the increase in demand for and consumption of halal products must be utilized as well as possible so that it can make a significant contribution to the national economy.
“This condition requires business actors to be able to produce quality halal products that are globally competitive. Continuous innovation and improvement is a necessity,” he said.
According to him, business actors are required to produce quality halal products while still paying attention to social conditions and environmental sustainability.
He said that the Halal Product Assurance Law requires halal certification for products distributed and traded in Indonesia.
“There is one year left to complete the halal certification obligations for all products in Indonesia,” he said.
Therefore, the Vice President invited all parties to work together to accelerate the implementation of halal certification obligations from upstream to downstream, from halal meat certification in slaughterhouses to food traded in culinary tourism locations.
According to him, the important things that must be done together include increasing literacy regarding halal certification for business actors and the community.
Apart from that, he continued, it is also important to increase the competency of human resources involved in the halal certification process and use digital technology to improve halal certification services.
“Strengthen cross-stakeholder collaboration and synergy. Set aside sectoral interests first so that the target of accelerating halal certification can be achieved on time,” he said.
The Vice President congratulated the companies and business actors who were nominated and won awards at the 2023 LPPOM MUI Halal Award.
He hopes that the Indonesian halal industry will continue to progress and make a real contribution to improving people’s welfare. (mhn/bbs)
