Bekasi, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said that Indonesia was able to become a center for electric cars and motorcycles because it had abundant battery raw materials.
According to Zulkifli, the government has made various efforts to attract investors to invest and build factories for the electric vehicle industry. Indonesia also has a number of advantages ranging from natural resources to a large population.
“We have the advantage of having a larger population, we also have batteries. If many factories can make it here, we will become the center for green economy electric motor vehicles here,” said Zulkifli after visiting PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, in Bekasi Regency, West Java, Tuesday.
The government’s seriousness in making Indonesia a center for electric vehicles, one of which is by banning nickel exports or what is known as the downstream policy.
According to Zulkifli, the government wants electric car players to come and build factories in Indonesia, so that Indonesia no longer needs to sell nickel raw materials.
“Pak President (Joko Widodo) banned the export of nickel. We call the downstream policy banned by Europe, because it will harm them. That way we profit thousands of times, selling one nickel, if we sell batteries, it’s already thousands of times. Therefore, we die “The center for electric cars is here, because we have the resources,” said Zulkifli.
However, the Minister of Trade did not deny that Indonesia also lacks other minerals, such as lithium and graphite. Therefore, Indonesia is working with Australia to become a battery center.
“We have nickel, there (Australia) has lithium, so that later we can work together and we will become a battery center, Australia has the raw materials. Because we can’t do it separately, we have to work together, we can do this green energy ecosystem and electric cars. hope to be here,” said Zulkifli Hasan. (mhn/bbs)
