Puan: Elimination of Covid-19 Tests as Travel Requirements Eases the Public

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Puan Maharani supports the policies made in the transition to normal activities after the Covid-19 pandemic. Even so, Puan reminded that the implementation of the policy was carried out carefully.

One of the policies currently being implemented is the abolition of the antigen/PCR test as a requirement for domestic or domestic travel. This policy applies to land, air, sea, and rail transportation modes.

“The elimination of the Covid-19 test, both antigen and PCR, will relieve the community, but we all hope that the mitigating things at the beginning will burden the community at the end,” said Puan in her statement, Wednesday (9/3/2022).

Puan reminded the experience during the Covid-19 pandemic. The reason, said Puan, is that a spike in cases often occurs because of the easing. “So in the transition to a normal life, the discipline of health protocols remains the main requirement that must be carried out. This must be accompanied by strict supervision in the field,” she said.

According to Puan, as a result of easing without proper supervision, there will be another spike in Covid-19 cases. He said that the spike in cases should always be anticipated so as not to have a long impact.

“Every easing policy taken must be really careful and prioritize health factors in the transition to the Covid-19 endemic,” said Puan.

Not only that, the participation of transportation service providers is also considered to be a concern. Puan said the management of transportation modes must improve services, especially with regard to handling Covid-19.

“This includes preparing supporting facilities if there are passengers who are indicated to be infected with Covid-19. And make sure that all who enter public transportation must have a green status on the PeduliLindung application,” said Puan Maharani.

Furthermore, Puan emphasized the importance of accelerating Covid-19 vaccination, both primary and booster. This is because policy easing is considered to be ineffective if it is not accompanied by optimal vaccination coverage in all regions in Indonesia.

“For people who find it difficult to visit health facilities, the government must intensify door-to-door services, especially for the elderly whose vaccination coverage is still low,” said Puan.

Puan urged that the roadmap that is being made by the government towards the Covid-19 endemic situation should pay attention to various aspects. According to Puan, health and economic indicators alone are not sufficient in forming a policy. Puan said that other considerations were needed, such as from a social and cultural perspective.

“The balance between health issues and people’s economic interests must pay attention to the needs of the community itself. Involve various stakeholders in drafting regulations,” said Puan Maharani. (mhn/bbs)
