A total of 99 Indonesian citizens have been evacuated from Ukraine

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi said that as many as 99 Indonesian citizens (WNI) had been evacuated from Ukraine through various processes that have been running in several waves.

“The total number who have been outside Ukraine is 99 Indonesian citizens and foreigners who are the family of our Indonesian citizens. (A total of) 99 Indonesian citizens have left Ukraine, once again, including 5 Indonesian citizens who evacuated independently,” said the Foreign Minister in a press briefing monitored from Jakarta, Tuesday.

On this occasion, Retno explained that as many as 25 Indonesian citizens who were evacuated through Odessa had arrived in Bucharest, Romania on February 27 at 16:30 local time.

All are women and one child is about 12 years old.

The evacuation team traveled from Tulcea, on the Romanian and Moldova border, at 6am local time Saturday and arrived back in Bucharest on 27 February.

All Indonesian citizens are in good condition, except for one person who is positive for COVID-19 and is already being treated.

Meanwhile, as many as six Indonesian citizens and one foreigner who is a family member of one of the Indonesian citizens have been successfully evacuated from Lviv to Rzeszow, Poland.

The six Indonesian citizens consist of two adult women, three children and one baby.

Then, there were four Indonesian citizens consisting of two men and two children, as well as two foreigners who were spouses of Indonesian citizens, who were picked up by the Indonesian Embassy in Warsaw from Mc D Ternopil, Lviv, Ukraine to Poland with a distance of 150 kilometers.

The largest evacuation group involved 59 Indonesian citizens and one foreigner who was evacuated from Kiev to Moldova and was on their way to Romania.

“The evacuation from Kiev was previously planned to be carried out on February 27, 2022, passing through the city of Lviv to Poland. However, due to the curfew policy and several road infrastructure challenges caused by the war, the evacuation had to be rearranged,” said Retno, who said that she was directly involved in rearranging the safe route for evacuees from Kiev.

Currently, all Indonesian citizens are in two safe points, namely in Bucharest, Romania and Rzeszow, Poland.

There are still four Indonesian citizens in Kharkiv and nine in Chernihiv in northern Ukraine. The Foreign Minister said that they could not be evacuated as the ground fighting was still going on.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Kiev and the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow are in constant contact with them. The information we received is that they are in good health and have adequate logistical supplies,” said Retno.

According to her, the government is still waiting for the right moment to evacuate them.

In addition, there are 24 Indonesian citizens who choose to remain in Ukraine for family reasons, considering that they are married to Ukrainian citizens. (mhn/bbs)
