Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Member of the Indonesian Parliament (DPR RI) M. Nurdin questioned the follow-up to the ratification of the extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore to the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly.
“Indonesia’s success in ratifying extradition with Singapore, what is the follow-up? It needs to be socialized, including to members of the DPR RI,” said Nurdin in a working meeting with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday.
Responding to this, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly explained that the Government encourages the process of ratification of the extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore to be completed immediately.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) will immediately follow up and submit it to the DPR. We will convey the initiative permit to the President together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We hope this can be rushed,” said Yasonna.
He emphasized that law enforcement agencies have responded positively to the agreement, including the prosecutor’s office and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Yasonna said the agreement was a long and very important milestone after 25 years in an extradition treaty with Singapore.
“Retroactive or retroactive can be 18 years in accordance with the provisions of criminal law,” he said.
In addition, Yasonna hopes that it will also be the duty of law enforcement officials (APH) to start making lists, which can be requested for extradition, while waiting for the ratification process that is being carried out.
The extradition treaty is essentially an agreement that regulates the procedure for surrendering a person suspected of or convicted of committing a crime by a state.
The extradition agreement between Indonesia and Singapore was signed by Yasonna Laoly and the Minister of Home Affairs and Singapore’s Minister of Law K. Shanmugam in Bintan, Riau Islands some time ago. (mhn/bbs)
