President Jokowi inaugurates the Tapin Dam in South Kalimantan

Tapin, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Tapin Dam, located in Pipitak Jaya Village, Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan.

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim today I will inaugurate the Tapin Dam in Tapin district, South Kalimantan Province,” said President Joko Widodo at the Tapin Dam, South Kalimantan on Thursday.

According to President Jokowi, the dam had been built since 2015 and spent a budget of IDR 986 billion.

“This is almost IDR1 trillion and has a capacity of 56.7 million cubic meters of water which plays a very important role in flood control, as well as strengthening food security because it can provide irrigation for 5,472 hectares and provide raw water for 0.5 cubic meters per second,” said the President.

The dam can also generate 3.3 Megawatts of electricity. “Earlier, the governor also said that because of the Tapin Dam, the flood in Tapin District could be reduced, very drastically, only a very small area was affected by flooding because Tapin Regency has this dam,” added the President.

According to the President, the dam was also part of solving the flood problem that hit the province of South Kalimantan.

“This is the function of the dam in addition to irrigating rice fields, generating electricity, apart from raw water, also in the context of flood control. We know that the flood in South Kalimantan province covers a very wide area, approximately 10 districts and cities, and this (flood) requires comprehensive handling from upstream to downstream, “said the President.

President Jokowi also held dialogue with residents whose houses were relocated to build dams. “After the dam is finished, what are your comments?” asked the President.

“It’s like a dream sir, meeting Mr. President,” replied a man “What is being asked about the dam,” said the President.

“With this dam, the hope is for us people here, not only in the downstream. We hope that people are not only spectators, we want the community to be empowered through tourism villages so that businesses can open up for the community, “the father replied.

“Yes, I forgot earlier, this is a function after seeing the beauty around this reservoir, it is true that it can become a tourism object not only in the Tapin district but in the province of South Kalimantan as well,” said the President.

The Tapin Dam consists of several buildings, namely overflow buildings, facilities, relocation and saddle dams as well as retrieval buildings that will be utilized. The dam has also begun to be filled with water (impounding) since October 2, 2020.

Also participating in the inauguration were the Acting Governor of South Kalimantan Safrizal, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Chief of Presidential Staff Moeldoko, Head of Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono and other relevant officials. (icn/bbs)
