Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin wants Indonesia’s young generation to compete at the global level so that they become role models, not just spectators.
“Indonesian Muslim youth must become ‘role models’ for the world’s Muslim generation, namely the young Muslim generation who are moderate, tolerant, globally competitive, and advanced,” said Vice President KH. Ma’ruf Amin while attending the online Graduation VIII of the Bani Fattah Institute of Islamic Religion (IAIBAFA) Jombang for the 2021/2022 academic year, from the official residence of the Vice President in Jakarta, Saturday.
According to the Vice President, there are a number of things that must be considered by the younger generation in taking part in society.
“The first point is that the values of tolerance must be held as the key to the harmonious life of the Indonesian nation in the midst of its plurality. You must continue to implement these values, do not abandon our national values, because that is our identity as an Indonesian nation,” said the Vice President.
Furthermore, the Vice President said that global developments need to be studied in formulating a domestic policy because national boundaries are increasingly blurred.
“Problems in one country can have an impact on other countries in a short time. Domestic issues and global issues are a tandem that you must master,” added the Vice President.
The vice president also hopes that the younger generation will not give up in studying because quality leaders are born from tireless forging and learning.
“However, all of these things still need to be equipped with noble character. Don’t stop studying. In fact, studying is a lifelong job, it doesn’t stop at school and college,” said the Vice President.
Furthermore, the Vice President also encouraged IAIBAFA graduates to become entrepreneurs.
“I encourage you to become entrepreneurs, so that you can create job opportunities for your countrymen,” added the Vice President.
This entrepreneurship is in line with the government’s priority in developing the Islamic economy and finance in order to achieve prosperity in a fair and inclusive manner.
This means that many experts in the field of Islamic finance are needed, especially in muamalah fiqh who are still very open to various ijtihad in accordance with the challenges that continue to develop.
“This is a very good opportunity for you to contribute as much as possible in the field of Islamic economics and finance, especially to develop fiqh with contemporary perspectives in the future,” said the vice president.
Ending his remarks, the Vice President did not forget to remind the IAIBAFA academic community to continue to be disciplined in implementing health protocols, considering that the Indonesian nation is currently entering the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Maintaining health protocols is part of the effort to maintain the safety of the soul, hifdzun nafs, as taught in Islam, and hifdzun nafs is one of the big goals of the goals of Islamic law,” said the vice president.
On this occasion, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, conveyed his presentation regarding the urgency of implementing halal product guarantees in capturing the great opportunities of the Indonesian nation. This extraordinary opportunity must be captured by IAIBAFA, especially the Islamic Economics Study Program.
“The urgency of guaranteeing halal products, later I beg to be made a priority program at IAIBAFA, how to prepare a halal center,” said Khofifah.
Previously, the chairman of the Bani Abdul Fattah Foundation, Mohammad Idris, underlined the challenges of Islamic boarding school education in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which inevitably prioritizes information technology (IT).
Apart from East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the offline and online IAIBAFA Graduation VIII event was also attended by Jombang Regent Mundjidah Wahab, Coordinator of Kopertis Region IV Surabaya Masdar Hilmy, along with the entire academic community and IAIBAFA graduates.
Meanwhile, the Vice President was accompanied by the Acting Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President Ahmad Erani Yustika and the Vice President’s Special Staff Masduki Baidlowi and Bambang Widianto. (ojn/bbs)
