Minister of Health: Handling the pandemic must be a lesson for the younger generation

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Budi Gunadi Sadikin invites the younger generation to use the pandemic that has been rolling for the last three years as a benchmark for experience as well as learning for the younger generation that can be passed on for the future.

“This pandemic may have a cycle of years, even decades. So, what the current generation does in dealing with a pandemic, can be a benchmark for young people in the future if a pandemic occurs,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Budi said the younger generation needed to understand very well the handling of the pandemic by the government through mutual cooperation with the community in suppressing the death rate of many people. So that when a similar event occurs again in the future, it is hoped that it will not cause many deaths.

“It is our obligation to ensure that the younger generation must be involved in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and they can understand what the government is trying to do to prevent the next pandemic from happening,” he said.

According to Budi, this year’s G20 Presidency has spawned many efforts to handle the COVID-19 pandemic that can be used as lessons for young people.

There are five targets to be achieved in the G20 presidency, including establishing a Pandemic Fund so that countries have sufficient funds to control the next pandemic.

In addition, Budi said, the G20 also established a formal mechanism for the use of pandemic funds, with the aim that pandemic funds could be used fairly to access vaccines, medicines, diagnostic tools, especially for developing countries.

The next goal is to build a genome sequencing network in the world. Because viruses, bacteria, parasites that cause pandemics can appear anywhere.

“So, it is necessary to build a surveillance system that is evenly distributed throughout the world,” he said.

Budi said that the G20 also initiated global health protocol standards so that when regional quarantines occur in all countries, all wheels of the economy can continue to move, including the distribution of health logistics.

“The G20 also wants to ensure that the production of vaccines, medicines and medical devices is evenly distributed to all countries, especially developing countries,” he said.

The five agendas are expected to be components in the global health architecture. “Our responsibility is greater to prepare our generations. Therefore, the role of young people is very important, because we as people experiencing a pandemic at this time want the next generation to understand better if another pandemic occurs,” he said.
