Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that as many as 138 Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Ukraine are in safe condition.
“In communication with our Indonesian citizens there, they are in a safe condition. Stay calm and stay alert and continue to communicate with the Indonesian Embassy. We urge Indonesian citizens who find it difficult to contact the Indonesian Embassy immediately,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities (BHI) Judha Nugraha at a press briefing in Jakarta, Thursday.
Judha said that of the 138 Indonesian citizens currently in Ukraine, most of them are in Kiev and the rest are scattered in several other regions in Ukraine.
The Indonesian citizens in Ukraine, he continued, consist of migrant workers, manufacturers, students and students, as well as those who are married to local citizens.
“There are 11 Indonesian citizens living in eastern Ukraine, such as Donetsk and Luhansk,” said Judha.
He said his party was developing a contingency plan to anticipate an escalation of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
“We first make sure their location is safe and follow the latest developments that we see and we will evaluate every minute,” he said.
The contingency plan has been established based on intensive coordination between the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev and the central government, which includes three stages — emergency status three, two, and one — in which the size of each step is determined by the Indonesian representatives abroad.
“We ask Indonesian citizens in Ukraine to gather at the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev. For Indonesian citizens who are unable to gather at the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev, we ask them to stay where they are while we look for a safe route to evacuate residents who cannot gather at the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev,” said Judha.
