Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The chairman of the Legislative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra Province and the Governor of South Sumatra symbolically handed over remissions for prisoners and children in the framework of the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, at LPKA Class I Palembang, Wednesday (17/8/2022).
“Remission is a form of government appreciation for prisoners and children who have shown high achievement, dedication, and discipline in participating in the coaching program at the Correctional Institution,” said the Minister of Law and Human Rights, conveyed by Governor Herman Deru.
He said that the main objective of the coaching program is to prepare the mental, spiritual, and social provisions of the inmates so that they can integrate in a healthy manner when they return to the community.
“Make this moment a motivation to continue to behave well, obey the rules and continue to follow the coaching program diligently and earnestly,” he said.
Meanwhile, convicts who are immediately released are congratulated on establishing togetherness in the community.
“Be a good person and person, live in good social values, obey the law, actively contribute to development to continue life, life and livelihood as citizens and citizens of the community,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Harun Sulianto, in his report said that 11,275 inmates received General Remissions for the 77th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in prisons, detention centers and LPKA in South Sumatra.
Of that number, as many as 263 people received General Remission II, after receiving immediate free remission.
“From the 11,275 people, the amount of remission is 1,974 people for 1 month remission, 1,931 people for 2 months, 4,405 people for 3 months remission, 1,549 people for 4 months remission, 1,049 people for 5 months, and 367 people for 6 months. ” he explained.
Currently, Harun said, the number of residents in South Sumatran prisons and detention centers as of August 16, 2022 is 16,182, with 13,674 inmates and 2,508 detainees.
According to Harun, to overcome the overcrowding of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, South Sumatra has optimized the implementation of Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 24 of 2021 regarding the assimilation of Covid 19 and Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 7 of 2022 regarding Integration.
In 2021 as many as 1,899 prisoners have undergone assimilation, and 2,305 integration prisoners through parole, parole, and leave before release. While in 2022, 1,535 assimilated prisoners, and 1,471 prisoners have been integrated.
Then also carried out the transfer of prisoners to prisons outside South Sumatra, Nusa Kambangan prison as many as 35 inmates, other provinces as many as 38 inmates.
The South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office added that it had carried out certified training as many as 1,175 WBP in 2021, while in 2022 there were 885 WBP.
There are various types of training including Batik, Furniture/Carpentry, Barista, Sewing, Barista, Electric Welding, Wreaths, Automotive, Electronics (Audio Video), Electrical Installation, Building Construction, Catering, Make-up, Murals/Painting, Jumputan, Fish Cultivation, then there is Hydroponic Plant Cultivation, Barbershop, and Waste Bank Processing.
“The main purpose of the coaching program is to prepare the abilities/skills independently for the Prisoners as a provision for them to return to the community later,” said Harun.
Not only that, Harun conveyed in 2018 that Governor Herman Deru initiated the tahfidz quran program which was marked by the inauguration of the tahfdiz quran house at LPKA Palembang. And currently as many as 552 inmates from 20 Correctional UPTs are participating in the tahfidz quran program. “The 132 WBP who memorized the Quran will be tested by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of South Sumatra,” he said.
