South Sumatra Deputy Governor Cik Ujang Lays the First Stone for the Construction of the Baitul Huda Mosque in East OKU

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, Cik Ujang, laid the first stone to mark the start of the reconstruction of the Baitul Huda Mosque in Mekar Jaya Village, Belitang Madang Raya District, East OKU Regency, on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

This activity is an important momentum for the local community in renovating places of worship that have been standing for decades.

“The construction of this mosque is not just a physical structure, but a symbol of strengthening faith within the community. I express my deepest appreciation to the committee and residents of Mekar Jaya Village, who have demonstrated extraordinary unity,” said the Deputy Governor.

As a form of real support, Deputy Governor Cik Ujang also provided stimulus assistance in the form of 100 sacks of cement and 100 iron rods measuring 8.

Not only that, he also invited the ranks of East OKU Regency Government officials and village governments to actively contribute to accelerating the construction of the mosque.

The Head of the Development Committee, H. Tuhana, explained that the Baitul Huda Mosque had been standing for 30 years. Given the building’s condition, which was no longer comfortable for worship, the community agreed to undertake a complete rehabilitation through deliberation.

The construction of this new mosque is planned to cover an area of 17 m2 with an estimated total cost of IDR 1.2 billion.

“For the past six years, residents have independently collected mandatory contributions of Rp 50,000 per month, accumulating Rp 210 million, which is deposited in the BSI. Thank God, right after Eid al-Fitr, today we can hold the groundbreaking ceremony with the Deputy Governor,” said Tuhana.

In line with this, the Deputy Regent of East OKU, HM Adi Yuda, advised the community that after this building was completed, the spirit of mutual cooperation should not fade.

“Once construction is complete, our collective responsibility is to ensure the prosperity of this mosque. Maintain a sense of ownership of this village asset so that its benefits can be felt by future generations,” he concluded. (mhn/ril)
