President Jokowi invites European Union to work together to overcome multidimensional crisis

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited the European Union to increase cooperation with Indonesia and ASEAN in an effort to overcome multidimensional global crises such as in the energy, food, and inflation sectors.

“The world condition is not improving, we have to face multidimensional crises, including the food crisis, energy crisis, and inflation. There is only one option to address these challenges, namely cooperation,” President Jokowi said during a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel on the sidelines of the ASEAN Cambodia Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saturday, according to a statement from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta.

Meanwhile in his introductory remarks, Charles Michel congratulated and appreciated Indonesia for holding the G20 Presidency in a difficult situation like today.

“The European Council fully supports Indonesia’s G20 Presidency,” said Michel.

Also present accompanying President Jokowi at the meeting were the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister for State Secretary Pratikno.

The bilateral meeting with the European Council is one of the agenda in three bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saturday, in addition to meetings with the Secretary General of the United Nations, and the Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF). In addition to the bilateral meeting agenda, on Saturday, President Jokowi will also attend a series of high-level conferences (Summits) with ASEAN dialogue partners. (mhn/bbs)
