South Sumatra, Province to Overcome the Food Crisis Facing El Nino in Indonesia

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo stated that South Sumatra was one of the heroes for Indonesia. Because nationally, the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing 500 thousand hectares of new planting areas to anticipate extreme El Nino weather. While in South Sumatra, it can cover 150 thousand hectares with planting areas in lebak swamps.

“In Indonesia, the el nino effect is also a concern for us. The threat of a food crisis is also quite large. Therefore, according to instructions from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, a number of provinces have committed to preparing new planting areas,” he explained.

South Sumatra is capable of providing national rice reserves of 200 thousand tons. Likewise with other provinces that are a priority in Indonesia.
