Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Working Visit of the Chairperson of the Legislative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra (Sumsel) Province, Ms. Hj. R.A. Anita Noeringhati, SH., MH., and members of the Provincial DPRD. Sumsel, Mr. Ahmad Toha, S.Pd.I., M.Sc., to the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko-Marves) and the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation in DKI Jakarta, Tuesday (24/1/2023).
The visit was in the context of following up on community aspirations regarding the reopening of Palembang’s Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport and domestic flights to major cities including Umrah and Hajj pilgrimage flights.
Thank God, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin International Airport (SMB) II has returned to being able to bring pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims flying directly to Saudi Arabia.
Direct flights for haj and umrah services were briefly stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the world.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi immediately conveyed certainty regarding the flight service.
Responding to the Minister of Transportation’s statement, the Chairperson of the DPRD of South Sumatra, Hj Anita Noeringhati, expressed her gratitude for the policy given.
“I have always cried about this as a place to complain, by friends who organize Hajj and Umrah and travel, to be asked to open direct flights to the Holy Land,” said Anita.
“Well, thank God, as stated directly by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi, now the permit has been given,” she added.
Furthermore, Anita asked all parties to prepare everything related to the reopening of direct flights from SMB II to Saudi Arabia so that services for pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims could be maximized.
Also attending the visit was the Deputy Secretary for the Coordination of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment: Mr. Rustam Effendi and his staff, and was attended by the Head of the Prov.
