Balige, The Indonesia Post – Bartek Marszalek from Stromoy Racing won full points after winning race 1 of the first round of the F1 Powerboat World Championship (F1H2O) in the waters of Lake Toba, Muliaraja Napitupulu Harbor area, Balige, North Sumatra, Sunday.
In the race that lasted 30 minutes, the Polish racer finished in front by bulldozing the 2.2km circuit for 18 laps.
With this result, Marszalek has the right to 20 points which is an important capital to wade through the next seven rounds in the 2023 F1H2O season.
“It was really great to win the race. I really enjoyed it. The weather this morning was perfect for qualifying and we had a lot of spectators around the lake. So many smiles gave extra motivation. I was very good on the boat,” said Marszalek after the race.
The second position belongs to Sami Selio from the Sharjah team who is 01.97 seconds away from the winner. Then the third position was won by Erik Stark from the Victory team, who was 03.26 seconds adrift. The two drivers each got 15 and 12 points.
Peter Morin from China CTIC Team is in fourth place with a difference of 04.18 seconds and below him is the Abu Dhabi Team racer Thani Al Qemzi who is 05.87 seconds adrift.
Bad luck experienced by the defending champion Shaun Torrente from Abu Dhabi Team. He had to settle for being thrown into 9th place with one lap difference from the race winner.
Torrente, who had been in the leading position, was subject to a one lap penalty for stealing the start.
It was Torrente’s second mistake after previously in the qualifying session, he had won pole position, but his best record time was canceled because the driver was caught cutting the track.
Therefore, Torrente had to give up the pole position to Marszalek and start the race one position behind the Polish racer.
