Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – The use of masks is currently very high. Almost everyone today is seen using a mask to protect themselves from the threat of the coronavirus.
“Wearing a mask takes time to get used to,” said Dr. Scott Segal, chair of anesthesiology at Wake Forest Baptist Health, as reported by the New York Times website.
Segal admitted, wearing a mask properly would indeed make the breath a little stuffy. But it must be done because an error in wearing a mask can actually make a virus or bacteria can still enter through the respiratory tract.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is pulling the mask under the nose or even under the chin.
“You can’t pull and put a mask on when you come out,” said Shan Soe-Lin, a lecturer at the Yale Jackson Institute of Global Affairs.
Here are things you should not do when you wear a mask;
- Don’t wear a mask under your nose
- Don’t let your chin show
- Do not wear the mask loosely and there is a gap in the side
- Don’t wear a mask just to cover the tip of the nose
- Don’t pull the mask down to the chin if it’s still in a public place
Things to do:
The mask should always be located near the base of your nose and under the chin. Fasten the mask strap until it completely covers the cheek area and without any gaps.
After knowing the correct mask position, it’s a good idea to follow these tips to stay safe:
- Always wash hands before and after wearing a mask
- Tie the mask straps properly so that there are no gaps
- Do not touch the front of the mask when removing it
- The mask is worn and removed when inside the house. If you live in an apartment, elevator and stairs can be an area with high contamination
- Wash and dry cloth masks every day and store in a clean and dry place
But the thing to remember, masks are only limited protection. It is still advisable to wash hands and keep a social distance to prevent exposure to coronavirus that causes Covid-19 pain. (asm/bbs)
