Jokowi Starts Distributing Social Assistance and Grocery

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Indonesian’s Central government began distributing social assistance (bansos) and food packages as promised. Distribution of groceries was carried out symbolically in front of the State Palace, Jakarta by the Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara Monday (20/4).

“Symbolically representing the president, today we are distributing food packages to regions in DKI Jakarta,” Juliari was quoted as saying by CNNINdonesia.com.

The food aid was given to residents affected by the coronavirus in the Jakarta area and followed residents in the areas of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

This PDIP politician said assistance would be carried out over the next three months to a number of areas in Jakarta. Noted, as many as 1.2 million families will receive assistance from the central government in Jakarta and 600 thousand families in the Bodetabek area.

“On behalf of the president, I thank all those who have assisted the Ministry of Social Affairs and the central government in distributing the food packages that we sent,” he said.

Juliari claims the distribution of aid is a form of state presence in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. He hopes that the assistance is right on target for families who really need it.

“The president wants to ensure that the food packages can be carried out because of the cooperation of all parties, the Ministry of Social Affairs and all its partners, such as PT Pos and all partners in this food stewardship,” he added.

Jokowi is known to have poured out social assistance funds for Jakarta’s vulnerable poor citizens who were affected by the 19th plague. The budget is allocated for 2.6 million people or 1.2 million families with a magnitude of 600 thousand per month for 3 months.

Social Aid was also given to Bodetabek residents to 576 thousand families, each in the amount of Rp. 600 thousand per month for three months. This assistance is an effort by the government to prevent residents from going home and increase purchasing power during the 19th plague.

Jokowi has also distributed food packages to residents on the roadside several times including ojol drivers, traders, and other residents who are deemed needy. (asm/bbs)
