Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Land is a staple resource in any business, including in agriculture. Technically, paddy fields are dynamic exiting paddy fields which are periodically planted with rice or other plants.
The Province of South Sumatra (Sumsel) is one of the regions that is one of the largest rice production centers in Indonesia. Where in 2020, South Sumatra Province has targeted to achieve rice production of 4,925,191 tons of GKG and as of August 31, 2020, the achievement of rice production in South Sumatra has reached 3,088,976 tons of GKG with a planted area of 867,433 hectares.
This was conveyed directly by the Regional Secretary of the Province of South Sumatra (Sumsel) Nasrun Umar while leading the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Raw Area of Rice for South Sumatra Province, at Graha Bina Praja Pemprov of South Sumatra (3/9).
Nasrun said, an additional planting area of 101,948 hectares was needed so that the production target could be met this year.
“With a total area of 8,701,741 hectares consisting of 13 districts, 4 cities, 234 sub-districts, 384 sub-districts and 2,859 villages, the potential for land conversion in South Sumatra is still very large,” he said.
Based on the results of the meeting on 21 July 2020, data related to raw land area in South Sumatra Province, there was a decrease in the raw area of rice fields. Based on the 2017 SP for land, the raw area for rice fields in South Sumatra is 621,903.28 hectares, while based on the 2019 ATR / BPN it is 470,602.4. There is a difference in the reduction of rice field area of 151,300.8 Ha.
According to him, several factors caused differences in data on paddy fields, among others, because the area of unmapped paddy fields was larger than the land that had changed the function of the land besides that when data was collected.
“It could be that when we collect data on rice fields, the land is being flooded due to the rainy season, so it is not recorded. For this reason, apart from equalizing perceptions about the meaning of paddy fields between all related agencies, it is also necessary to observe and verify / ground check the field including validation and synchronization of data with related agencies, “he added.
Related to this problem, Nasrun Umar further revealed the main program of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia so that any data in agriculture becomes one door.
“So today through the coordination carried out by the South Sumatra Province Food Crops and Horticulture Agency together with related agencies sit together in FGD activities related to the issue of Verification of the Standard Area of Rice Fields in South Sumatra Province,” he added.
“It is hoped that through this activity, exiting rice fields that are not included in the ATR / BPN can be included in the raw area of rice fields so that the existence of paddy fields owned by farmers in South Sumatra Province can be protected,” he concluded. (nfl/rel)
