Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – SOE Minister Erick Thohir is optimistic that Indonesia can enter the ranks of the countries with the largest economies in the world, supported by four main capitals.
“If we look at the data backwards, that we will continue to grow until 2045, (the economy) is 5 percent, and will position us as the largest economy in the world,” he said at the 2022 Investor Daily Summit in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Erick assessed that there are four main capitals for Indonesia to be able to grow consistently. First, namely the downstreaming and industrialization of Indonesia’s abundant natural resources. Downstream is considered to be a supporter of economic growth and create jobs.
The second capital, he continued, is food security, where Indonesia is realizing its vision to become a regional and global food barn.
The next capital is the creative economy which has the potential to grow in line with Indonesia’s demographic conditions, which 54 percent are under 40 years old.
“The creative industry is a potential for future growth, whether food, sports, music, film, fashion, tourism,” he said.
The last capital, which is the digital economy, which Erick said has the potential to reach IDR 4,500 trillion.
“The potential of our digital economy is around Rp. 4,500 trillion. This is the largest in Southeast Asia. 40 percent of the digital economy is in Indonesia,” he said.
Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia achieved the highest economic growth among the countries and regions of the G20 forum members, indicating that the country’s recovery is continuing.
“So if I was asked to estimate the second quarter could grow 5.44 percent (year on year / yoy), try looking for G20 countries that grew above five percent. We are the highest in the G20,” said President Jokowi.
With this achievement, the President invites all parties to be optimistic about continuing the trend of Indonesia’s economic recovery. He acknowledged that Indonesia faces global challenges that are not easy, but there is always a way to overcome every problem.
“What we are facing is not easy, it is not easy, but we must remain optimistic,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
