JAKARTA, TheIndonesiaPost – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) issued a new policy to help rubber farmers amid the economic recession caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic. One of them is by buying rubber for farmers to make rubber asphalt. A budget of Rp100 billion has been prepared to smooth out the plan.
Minister of PUPR, Basuki Hadimuljono in his press statement, Monday (4/13), said the purchase of rubber was aimed at absorbing the sap of community production, which at this time the price was falling. Later, the rubber purchased will be used as raw material for making rubber asphalt.
“We have prepared Rp100 billion. This rubber will be used for asphalt mixture,” said Basuki.
According to him, purchases will be made through cooperatives or the Bokar Processing and Marketing Unit (UPPB) in the rubber production center. Like in South Sumatra, Jambi, West Kalimantan, Lampung and Riau.
“This program is included in the cash-intensive program. Later, there are several other products that will also be purchased. Such as Rosan plants that can be painted with road Marks,” he said.
He explained, the cash-intensive program was expected to absorb labor and maintain people’s purchasing power. Especially those in the countryside. “Hopefully it can affect the welfare of the community more or less,” he concluded. (Yani)
