Job Vacancies Down 70 Percent

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Job advertisements showed a very drastic decline. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, 70 percent of job vacancies were advertised during the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the number of companies posting job advertisements decreased by 50 percent.

BPS Head Kecuk Suhariyanto said the sharpest decline in job vacancies came from the food and beverage accommodation, trade, and processing sectors. The data per sector can be a reference for the government to map the severely affected sectors of Covid-19.

“Movement in this sector is an important key everywhere that needs to be intervened so that later recovery can occur very quickly,” he said in a virtual meeting with the House of Representatives Commission XI quoted from CNNIndonesia.com last Thursday.

The reduced number of job vacancies is related to pressure on the impact of companies from Covid-19. In fact, many workers are forced to be laid off until the Termination of Employment (FLE).

Previously, the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) noted the total number of workers affected by layoffs and laid off as of 20 April 2020 reached 2.08 million workers. More than half came from the formal sector which was affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
The number of workers from the formal sector who were laid off and laid off reached 1.54 million. Then, specifically in the informal sector, there were 538 thousand workers.

Meanwhile, the number of companies that laid off and laid off their employees was 116.37 thousand. That figure consists of 84 thousand companies in the formal sector and 31 thousand companies in the informal sector. (BBS)
