President: Vaccination in Indonesia is the fourth highest in the world

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the COVID-19 vaccination rate in Indonesia is the fourth highest in the world.

“We have the fourth vaccination in the world. After China, Brazil, the United States, then Indonesia,” said President Jokowi at the 67th Anniversary of Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, West Java, Monday as followed online.

Currently, the President said, COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia has reached 297,500,000 injections of vaccine doses. A total of 30 provinces have also achieved the target of over 70 percent of vaccine distribution to the community.

“That’s not a small number. (Province) including West Java. Because the Governor (Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil) whispered to me, West Java has reached 83 percent,” he said.

He explained that injecting vaccines of up to 297 million doses is not an easy activity to do in Indonesia because the country consists of tens of thousands of islands.

Vaccination officers, including the ranks of the TNI and Polri, must work hard to distribute vaccines to mountainous areas, to archipelagic areas, so that vaccine distribution can be evenly distributed.

“Some have to take a boat, take a motorbike to go up the mountain. Not easy stuff. I really appreciate the TNI-Polri who provide full support for this vaccination,” he said.

Until now, daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have also decreased dramatically, from 56,000 daily cases at the peak of transmission in mid-July 2021 to 855 cases in mid-January 2022.

“We should be grateful, COVID-19 which appeared in May, mid-July 2021, which caused horror everywhere at that time. The hospital aisles are full, the hospital yard is full, especially on the island of Java-Bali. At that time, I remember 56 thousand daily cases, and we are grateful that today yesterday the daily cases were at 855 cases,” explained President Jokowi. (mhn/bbs)
