The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the first injection of the coronavirus vaccine (SARS-CoV-2), Wednesday (13/1).
Vaccine injection is carried out at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta. The first injection of Jokowi with the Covid-19 CoronaVac vaccine made by a Chinese company, Sinovac, marked the vaccination program in Indonesia.
Jokowi’s vaccine injection was carried out by the Presidential Team of Doctors. Jokowi was injected in the left arm. Prior to the injection, Jokowi appeared to be consulting about his general health condition. The presidential team of doctors also showed a vaccine box that reads Sinovac before injecting the vaccine into Jokowi.
After Jokowi, a number of Maju Cabinet ministers were also given the first dose of Sinovac vaccine. Even so, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin did not participate in the vaccine injection, because of his age.
In the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination program, the government has made a priority list of vaccine recipients. The first priority group is health workers, assistant health workers, support personnel who work at health service facilities, TNI / Polri, legal officers, and other public service officers.
Regarding the provision of this vaccine, the government is also targeting at least 70 percent of Indonesia’s population or around 182 million people to be vaccinated. This is in order to form population immunity or herd immunity.
Previously, the BPOM had issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Sinovac vaccine. Head of BPOM Penny K. Lukito confirmed that the Covid-19 Sinovac vaccine is safe to use. According to him, the side effects are mild to moderate. Local side effects include pain, irritation, swelling. Meanwhile, systemic side effects include muscle pain, fetic, and fever.
Meanwhile, the reported frequency of side effects with severity, headache, skin disorders or diarrhea is only 0.1 to 1 percent. These side effects are not dangerous side effects and can be recovered. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has also issued a halal fatwa for the use of the Sinovac vaccine. The government will carry out its inaugural vaccination starting January 13, today.
