Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Flag Carrier (Paskibraka) member from Papua Mountains, Lilly Indriani Suparman Wenda, said she was proud to be chosen to be the carrier of the flag tray at the Proclamation Seconds Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday.
According to Lilly, she never thought she would be appointed to carry out this important task because during the early days of the training she had never been assigned to carry a tray of the Red and White Flag which would be hoisted at the ceremony commemorating the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
“At first it didn’t seem like I was carrying the tray during practice. Absolutely no tray. Then closer to the new D-day I was told to bring a tray,” said Lilly when met after the ceremony. Lilly was in the spotlight because her left shoe slipped off while carrying out her duties at the 78th Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony led by President Joko Widodo.
However, the incident did not affect her performance. She is visible but focused and confident in carrying his task through to completion. “(I) didn’t panic at all,” said the student at SMAN 1 Wamena.
Lilly also talked about her struggle to become one of the 76 members of the 2023 Paskibraka, which was inaugurated by President Jokowi on August 15.
The student from Wamena had to travel a long six hours to get to Jakarta, via Jayapura and Makassar.
In addition, Lilly and her friends were not allowed to use cell phones for 40 days during the training camp in Jakarta. “At first it was boring (because you can’t use your cell phone), but after a while you get used to it because you spend a lot of time with friends,” said the woman who dreams of entering the Police Academy.
Chairperson of the Pancasila Ambassador, Yuslihayanti, who took part in coaching Paskibraka members, hopes that Lilly and her colleagues can continue their struggle as Pancasila Ambassadors. “Indeed these younger siblings will continue our struggle to stay grounded, and we hope they will practice the values of Pancasila as future ambassadors,” said Yuslihayanti.
