The Indonesia Post – Ratna Machmud and Suwarti made history as the first female regent and deputy regent pair on the island of Sumatra, who were also inaugurated with five other regional heads in Palembang, Friday.
The two heroines were appointed by the Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru.
After the inauguration, Ratna Machmud said that her party would focus on improving infrastructure in the villages during the period 2021-2026.
“We have a program of 100 working days by going directly to the sub-districts and villages regarding what the residents of Musi Rawas Regency need,” said Ratna.
According to her, Musi Rawas Regency, which now has a population of 395,570 people, needs a development breakthrough so that the regional potential can raise the welfare of the community.
By going directly to the villages, according to her, it would be more effective to absorb community aspirations for development which were not only beneficial, but also in accordance with needs.
Previously, Ratna Machmud-Suwarti who was promoted by the Golkar, PAN and Gerindra Parties won the 2020 Musi Rawas Regent and Deputy Regent Election with 112,843 votes or 51.8 percent.
Both defeated the incumbent Hendra Gunawan-Mulyana who won 104,620 votes.
“Alhamdulillah, to be the first female regional head pair in Sumatra, we will carry this mandate well,” he added. (icn/bbs)
