HD: Sumatra-Bangka Sea Cable Electrical Interconnection Supports Tanjung Carat Port Activities In the Future

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – So far, Bangka Island’s electricity needs have been supplied from several power plants, which are dominated by oil fuel. At that time, Bangka’s electrical system was recorded to have barely touched the capacity limit.

To reduce the use of several power plants that use fuel oil, the Government through PT. PLN interconnects the marine cable power network that stretches from Tanjung Carat, Banyuasin Regency to Mentok, West Bangka Regency.

Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru while attending the celebration of the Sumatra-Bangka Sea Cable Electrical Interconnection in Sungsang Village, Banyuasin District, said that the connection of the submarine cable power network to Bangka would not only benefit the people of Bangka but also the people of South Sumatra.

“Electricity is the main requirement in running various businesses. Especially for the Tanjung Carat Port development plan, with the availability of electricity, it will facilitate the process of international-scale port activities later,” HD explained.

Director of Mega Projects and EBT PLN, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto in his virtual speech thanked the Governor of South Sumatra, Banyuasin Regent and Forkopimda ranks in South Sumatra and Banyuasin.

“Although during the interconnection process there were many obstacles, such as tides and permits and land acquisition, thanks to the coordination and support from the government and the local forkopimda, it was resolved properly,” explained Wiluyo.

Deputy Regent of Banyuasin H. Slamet Somosentono, S.H, said that the operation of electricity which is connected through Tanjung Carat, Banyuasin Regency can affect the welfare of the community.

Also present was the General Manager (GM) of PT. PLN UIW S2JB, Bambang Dwiyanto, GM PLN UIP Sumbagsel M. Dahlan Djamaluddin. (ojn/ril)
