Teten: 2023 will be the momentum for MSMEs to dominate the domestic market

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said this year was an opportunity for MSMEs to dominate the domestic market due to world uncertainties which disrupted global supply chains.

“This year is a momentum for MSME products or local brands to dominate the domestic market. Because the world supply chain is disrupted, the momentum is to take advantage of domestic potential,” said Teten in a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday (12/1).

From a regulatory standpoint, the government is said to have made a spending policy for the central government and regional governments to oblige to buy 40 percent of domestic products or up to IDR 400 trillion.

“This can create economic growth of 1.8 percent and create 2 million jobs. This is important in the midst of world uncertainty,” said Minister Teten.

This year, he continued, the key to maintaining the Indonesian economy is buying and consuming domestic products or MSME products.

“Forget about buying foreign products. Our products are better than those made in China. We can see that those who have large purchasing power are the upper middle class whose money was unemployed during the pandemic. That was because they didn’t travel, and just stayed at home. Now PPKM has been repealed, so they will start spending money and support people’s purchasing power,” he said.

On the same occasion, Kadin Indonesia Deputy Chairperson for Entrepreneurship Aldi Haryopratomo said that this year was indeed a good opportunity for MSMEs to take over the domestic market.

“Because it’s hard to get goods from abroad now. In our opinion, this year will be an opportunity for MSMEs. So we can target product segments to produce,” said Aldi.

According to him, Kadin also has many programs to help MSMEs to have wider access to markets and industry.

In addition, from a financial perspective, Kadin also has many programs in collaboration with P2P (peer to peer) lending and banking to provide financing to MSMEs, and is committed to training MSMEs to be able to manage finances.

“We want to strengthen the foundation of MSMEs so they can expand and take advantage of the recession,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
