Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the construction of the East-West Mast Rapid Transit (MRT), which is the Phase 3 development of the MRT with the Balaraja-Cikarang route of 84.10 kilometers, would be accelerated.
“The President’s directive is that this project can be completed or financially closed in 2024, so of course we need to follow up on this program,” said Airlangga as Chair of the Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Development (KPPIP) in a coordination meeting, as quoted from an official statement, Saturday. With financial support from Japan as the main investor, the MRT East-West project worth IDR 160 trillion is divided into 2 phases, namely phase 1 which covers the DKI Jakarta area and phase 2 which covers Banten and West Java.
The construction of the East-West MRT is in line with the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on fuel consumption and reduce congestion which is the main problem for Jabodetabek. The government plans to provide 3 operational depots at MRT East-West with an estimated 1.2 million passengers per day.
The East-West MRT will also cover 49 Transit Oriented Development (TOD) areas so as to provide a solution for massive public transportation. Phase 1 will be further divided into stage 1 along 24.52 kilometers which will go through Tomang, Dukuh Atas, Senen, Perintis to Medan Satria and stage 2 along 9.23 kilometers which will go through Tomang and Kembangan.
Phase 1 of the East-West MRT is expected to operate in 2031 with a target of completion of construction no later than 2024. Meanwhile, the East-West MRT phase 2 will be divided into East-West Banten with a length of 29.99 kilometers through Kembangan, Kelapa Dua, to Balaraja and East-West West Java along 20.43 kilometers which will pass through Medan Satria and Cikarang.
“Phase 2 itself is expected to operate in 2033,” said Airlangga. DKI Jakarta itself has 27 National Strategic Projects (PSN) with an estimated investment value of IDR 313 trillion.
Based on the evaluation results as of January 2023, currently of the 27 projects, 3 PSNs have been operating, 4 PSNs are partially operational, 6 PSNs are under construction, and 14 PSNs have entered the preparation and transaction stages. (mhn/bbs)
