Yogyakarta, The Indonesia Post – Deputy President Ma’ruf Amin said it was strange regarding information that said there were airlines in Indonesia that prohibited flight attendants from wearing the headscarf while on duty.
If the ban on wearing the headscarf really exists, then the ban is irrelevant.
“So if there is a ban on wearing the headscarf, it’s a bit strange, I think we’ll check again, it needs to be investigated,” Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said at the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace on Saturday.
Previously, the Garuda Indonesia airline received input from Commission VI of the Indonesian Parliament to revise the rules for cabin crew uniforms, so that Muslim flight attendants could wear their headscarves according to the guidance of Islamic law.
Member of Commission VI DPR RI from the Gerindra faction Andre Rosiade gave input on revising the rules which do not allow Muslim flight attendants to wear headscarves.
Andre said that many Muslim flight attendants at Garuda Indonesia wear the headscarf on a daily basis, but they have to take off their headscarves when on duty as Garuda Indonesia flight attendants.
“Regarding the issue of the headscarf, I think it needs to be checked, is it true, because until now there has been no ban on the headscarf,” said the Vice President.
The chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council also thinks it is strange that there are still institutions that prohibit the use of the headscarf.
“It’s no longer in the police, in the army everyone also wears a headscarf, in universities, everywhere is allowed,” added the Vice President.
It is known that since May 2015, the National Police Headquarters has officially accommodated the wishes of its members and civil servants who work within the National Police to wear the hijab.
This rule is contained in the Decree of the Chief of Police Number: 245/III/2015 dated 25 March 2015, concerning changes to some of the Decree of the Chief of Police No: SKEP/702/X/2005 dated 30 September 2006 regarding the designation of the use of uniforms for Polri and PNS Polri. (mhn/bbs)
