Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru (HD) together with the South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Toni Harmanto launched the initial corn crop in order to support the national food security program in the Betung SPN area of the South Sumatra Police, Banyuasin Regency.
HD hopes that through this program, South Sumatra Province can become the largest corn cluster in Indonesia. For that, he appreciated the South Sumatra Police for being the first Regional Police to carry out a corn planting program by utilizing land owned by the South Sumatra Police.
Through guidance from the South Sumatra Province TPH Agriculture Service, they can produce export quality corn. In the future, HD hopes to create TNI clusters, Islamic Boarding Schools Clusters, including community clusters.
“With 200 thousand hectares of targeted corn farming land, it is estimated that there will be 1.2 million tons of corn in one harvest. Meanwhile, this corn can be harvested twice in one year,” he said.
The South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Toni Harmanto hopes that the community empowerment-based corn planting program can take place sustainably to support food security and later be able to generate exports of agricultural products.
Meanwhile, the Head of Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture of South Sumatra Province, Bambang Pramono, said that in 2021 South Sumatra Province was ranked 10th in Indonesia as a corn-producing area. In addition, Babinkamtibmas has conducted training in East OKU Regency to plant corn.
On that occasion, an MoU was also signed between the Governor of South Sumatra and the South Sumatra Police Chief regarding agricultural development in South Sumatra. Then the MoU of the Governor of South Sumatra with BPJS Employment, Bank Sumsel Babel, PT. PUSRI, and Indonesian Farmers Guide.
At the end of the event, HD together with the South Sumatran Police Chief Inspector General Toni Harmanto, they carried out the sowing of fish seeds in the NCO Reservoir SPN Betung, South Sumatra Police.
