Deputy Governor of South Sumatra Opens the 2025 Sriwijaya Open Swimming Championship, Developing Skilled and Potential Swimmers

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness colored the opening of the 2025 Sriwijaya Open Swimming Championship, the South Sumatra Governor’s Cup, which was officially opened by the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra at the Jakabaring Aquatic Stadium on Thursday (September 4, 2025).

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor expressed his pride and warm welcome to all guests, participants, and invitees attending from various regions in Indonesia.
“On behalf of the South Sumatra Provincial Government, I extend a warm welcome. Your presence is an honor and a source of pride for the people of South Sumatra,” he said.

He further emphasized that this championship is not just a competition, but also a platform for swimming development, a place to foster promising young talents, and a means to strengthen brotherhood between regions through the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

“Our hope is that from the Land of Sriwijaya, we will produce accomplished swimmers who can bring honor to the region and nation on the national and international stage,” he added.

The General Chairperson of the South Sumatra Aquatics Association, Prof. Edward Juliartha revealed that this tournament was the first to be held since 2023. The championship, which took place on September 4–6, 2025, attracted 1,709 athletes from 98 clubs and 15 provinces across Indonesia.
“This enthusiasm also proves that the Jakabaring Aquatic Stadium is indeed worthy of being called a national-standard swimming venue,” he explained.

Also present at the event were the Head of the South Sumatra Youth and Sports Agency, Rudi Irawan, and the Head of the South Sumatra Public Works and Housing Agency, Novian Aswardani, who fully supported the organization of this prestigious event. (rys/ril)
