Minister of Finance: No country in the world can prosper and be strong without taxes

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that there is no country in the world that can be prosperous and strong, and can develop its country without contributions from taxes.

Thus, tax reform in Indonesia is currently being carried out through the Law on Harmonization of Tax Regulations (UU HPP) which is intended to build a stronger foundation for domestic taxation.

“People often say that being independent means being independent, you don’t pay taxes, but they don’t, because the most independent and superpower country, the taxes are also large,” Sri Mulyani said in the Socialization of the Central Java HPP Law which was monitored online in Jakarta, Thursday.

She said this is a consequence for a country that wants to continue to develop its country, and Indonesia as a country that is still in the middle class when viewed from per capita income, has a lot of development needs going forward.

Indonesia’s vision to achieve a developed country in 2045 is described as a country with a population of 309 million people, because the fertility rate is still above 1, with 52 percent of the population being productive, 75 percent of the population living in urban areas, and 80 percent of the middle-income population.

In addition, domestic per capita income can reach 30 thousand US dollars, which is supported by healthy economic growth, so that Indonesia will become a country with the fourth largest economy in the world.

This vision, she continued, would not happen and could only be a dream if it was not pursued in a systematic and organized manner.

“There are no shortcuts and no easy paths, all countries in the world in achieving their big goals will definitely need a struggle,” she stressed.

Therefore, the State Treasurer said that domestic human resources must continue to be developed, the bureaucracy must be improved, and regulations must be more efficient, all of which require the participation of all parties. (mhn/bbs)
