President Jokowi: We will not leave Jakarta

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo stressed that the government will not leave the city of Jakarta even though there will be a transfer of the national capital to the archipelago (Nusantara).

“It was also conveyed that we would repair Jakarta, not abandon it. There should be no such perception,” said President Joko Widodo while chairing a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday.

The Nusantara Capital (IKN) will be built on a land area of ​​approximately 256,142 hectares and a marine area of ​​approximately 68,189 hectares located in North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara regencies in East Kalimantan Province.

“Please convey the issue of the distribution of economic GDP (Gross Domestic Product), the issue of regional inequality between Java and outside Java, the issue of the dense population in Java, namely 56 percent of Indonesia’s population is in Java, 58 percent of economic GDP is in Java,” added the President.

President Jokowi assigned this directly to Bambang Susantono and Dhony Rahajoe, who had just been inaugurated as Head and Deputy Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority.

“I hope that later the Authority will also be able to recruit local people for its deputies so that we really involve the community in the regions and communicate to various elements, why is there this transfer,” said President Jokowi.

In the IKN Master Plan, it is stated that IKN development will occur in 5 stages, namely in phase I in 2022-2024 for urban development, basic infrastructure development, and economic development as well as relocation of the TNI, Polri and BIN; Phase II in 2024-2029 with the target that primary and secondary public transportation facilities are ready for use.

Phase III is in 2030-2034 with the target of completing the mass public transportation system, wastewater treatment plant (IPAL), drinking water treatment plant (IPAM), supporting facilities for sponge city, waste processing, adding digital and urban amenities.

Phase IV in 2035-2039 begins with the development of the education and health sectors as well as the completion of the construction of regional railways and multipurpose dams and stage 5 in 2040-2045 is marked by sustainable industrial development and stable population growth.

The government estimates that the total budget requirement for IKN will reach Rp. 466 trillion, which will be met through the State Budget of Rp. 89.4 trillion, Rp. 253.4 trillion from government and business entity cooperation (KPBU) and Rp. 123.2 trillion from the private sector. (mhn/bbs)
